Having a baby these days....

I still believe there is NOTHING that compares to having children of your own.  But this blog is about the process we have gone through the first week of my new baby's life.  What a deal!!!  If this wasn't my 3rd kid, I wouldn't know what to think.  Here's why:
  • Throughout the pregnancy we saw a group of doctors instead of just one and never knew if we would see the same one twice.  They do this in case your doctor is not available when labor begins and they don't want a stranger to take his place.  Well let me fill you in on a secret, when you see 9 different doctors in nine months, they all remain strangers in all reality.  So none of them really knew our full story all of the time.  I swear to you the doctors office asked my wife at 8 months if she was pregnant.  Where's the relationship?
  • Then during the hospital stay, you see a different nurse every day and night that is taken care of the mom and a whole different group of nurses taking care of the baby.  Again, you are lucky if you see the same one twice during your stay.  And the interesting thing is, they all say WELL this is how I do it??? So again I ask you, where is the relationship and which of you really knows the right way and which of you remember my wife's name or the baby's name?
  • Then you have another group of doctors that work for the Pediatric group that are in charge of checking on the baby after birth and making sure she is well on her way to getting out soon and healthy.  Again they are all strangers, they are all unique and they all say WELL this is how I do it???  Come on man!  Can't I just have one doctor!!!  One says yeah take her home, the next one says WHOA not yet.  The one says don't use feeding tube and the next one says that is a must.  Again if I were 19 and a single mother, I could have gone crazy by now.
  • Then they have scare tactics.  Do you have a car seat?  Do you have a car to put it in?  Are you sick?  Have you ever been sick?  Do you ever want to be sick?  Have you ever known anyone that was sick?  Where do you live?  Is anyone there sick?  Do you beat kids?  Have you heard of SIDS and RSV and Shaken baby, and ESPN and a bunch of other things?  Then they make you watch 2 videos, then they test your car seat, then it never ends.
  • I am very very interested in making sure my baby girl is healthy and being taken care of but the whole process these days is a bit much.  My 2nd baby girl was in there for 12 hours and home and hasn't looked back once.  But we may have been lucky so far!!!
I'm not complaining, I'm not not being appreciative for the men and women that we have worked with, what I'm really saying is I want to find a good doctor and stick with him so he knows my family like his own and I don't have to tell him each time what my name is.....

Thanks for reading!

Aaron
